On 3rd December, 2010, the Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman and 8 sponsor companies in Oman, in close cooperation with the Oman Japan Friendship Association, organized a performance of Japanese dance by dance troupe "Kikunokai" in the Oman Auditorium at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, under the patronage by H.E. The performance was held to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne and the future opening of the Royal Opera House.

The dance troupe "Kikunokai" was founded by Michiyo Hata in 1972. It has performed since then in many parts of the world, including the United States of America, European countries, Asian countries as a cultural envoy. The most outstanding prize was the Excellent Art Prize at the Cultural Festival sponsored by the Agency for the Cultural Affairs of Japan in 1976. For their services in this respect, they were awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendation in 1986. They perform "Japanese Dance" which is the traditional culture and the cultural heritage in Japan.

Due to successful publicity in advance, bursted with the Auditorium before the opening.  The performance started following the welcome greetings by H.E. Seiji Morimoto, Ambassador of Japan. Laughter was filled with a large audience to a Noh comedy about bachelors finding their future wives and a Japanese folk song in which performers played humorously the scenes of a mother-in-law teasing her daughter-in-law. The audience, in admiration for the great performance, applauded the performers and the mood in the Auditorium ran high. After the performance, the guests were still enjoying reverberations while shaking hands and taking pictures with the performers. (The website of Japanese Traditional troupe "Kikunokai", click here).
