Since the great Tohoku Pacific Ocean Earthquake hit
H.E.
Seiji Morimoto, Ambassador of
Japanese companies took part to a
substantial extent in the construction of LNG production facilities of both
companies. Even after the LNG production began, the two companies have kept
close and strong partnership with Japanese trading companies, gas and
electric companies in addition to the investment from several Japanese companies. Representing Japanese investors in the two, the ceremony was attended by Mr.
Toyonoshin Saito, Mr. Yoshiyuki Hattori, and Mr. Takayuki Tsutsumi, heads of the local offices of Mitsubishi
Corporation, Mitsui & Co., Middle East Ltd., and Itochu Corporation,
respectively.
Mrs. Yoshiko Morimoto,
wife of the Ambassador of Japan received Mrs. Sally Sleep, President of WGO;
Mrs. Joyce Broomhead, Treasurer; and Mrs. Eileen Woods at the Ambassador's
residence on 1st May. The guests handed over
to Mrs. Morimoto the valuable donation raised by its members. The group
consisting mainly of British ladies is a local NPO engaged in social and charitable
activities.
On the evening of 24th
April, the Ministry of Sports Affairs of Oman organized “Oman Youth Solidarity
Walk with Japan Tsunami Victims”, a charity walking event in
H.E. Seiji Morimoto, Ambassador of Japan, received Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman, Managing Director and Mr. Taketsugu Kimura, General Manager of Group Business Development, Al Hassan Group, in his office on 19th April. The guests handed over to the Ambassador the valuable donation which was raised by the employees of the company. Al Hassan Group has close working relationship with Japanese enterprises in electric and energy sector.
“Sakura-Kai”, a group of Japanese ladies married with Omani spouses, organized a charity classic concert for the victims of the great earthquake in Intercontinental Hotel on 18th April. The event was held under the patronage of the Oman-Japan Friendship Association H.E. Khalil Abdullah Al-Khonji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), as guest of honor and various musicians including those related to Royal Symphony Orchestra volunteered to play music instruments.
During concert there were auction and bazaar. All the revenue is expected to transmitted to the special account “Friends of Japan”.
H.E. Seiji Morimoto, Ambassador of Japan, was
invited by the American International School of Muscat (TAISM) and attended a
ceremony where the pupils in lower grades together with the director and
teaching staff shared the sympathy and solidarity for Japan. The pupils folded more
than 2,000 pieces of paper cranes and made several international flags with them
including those of

The Ladies’ Association of the Embassy of Malaysia took an initiative to organize a “Charity Bazaar for Japan’s Tsunami & Earthquake Victims” on 6th April at the residence of the Malaysian DCM together with the Ladies’ Associations of Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Republic of Indonesia. The ladies brought there their own special cuisines, handicrafts and products from their individual countries, and the revenue of the bazaar was handed over to Mrs. Yoshiko Morimoto, wife of the Ambassador, later in a meeting of the Ambassadors' Wife Group. The donation was deposited to the special account of “Friend of Japan”.
The parents of several Japanese students at the British School - Muscat held a sale of Origami handicraft on 6th April and donated its revenue to the special account "Friends of Japan"

initiative for the victims of the catastrophic events in Japan, Omantel voluntarily disseminated the details of the bank account that had been
specially established for donations for
Mothers of Japanese students at ABA together with other Japanese ladies in the local community participated in the Art Exhibition held at the school on 30th March. While several origami art works such as senbazuru were on display, a number of other items went on sale. All proceeds of the sales have been transferred into the special bank account as donations for the affected people in Japan.
The parents of several Japanese children at Oasis Kindergarten and Abu Adnan Nursery held a charity sale on 29th March. Origami handicrafts, cookies, used books and used clothes went on sale. All proceeds of the sales have been transferred into the special bank account as donations for the affected people in Japan.
A group of representatives from the Departments of Food & Beverages and Housekeeping, Al-Bustan Palace Hotel, presented a message card filled with words of support written by their colleagues along with donations at the Charity Bruch held on 27th March.

Mrs. Yoshiko Morimoto, wife of the
Ambassador of Japan, held a Charity Brunch on 27th March from 11am to 4pm at the
residence of the Ambassador of Japan to raise funds for the victims and
sufferers of the great earthquake and tsunamis. The event was attended by
prominent ladies of local communities over a buffet which consists of a variety
of international cuisines contributed by the wives of ambassadors of 26 other
countries and an international organization.
An assortment of origami cranes was
received from a family of one of the students at American British Academy (ABA)
on 26th March along with the receipt of donation payment issued by a local bank.

A group of volunteers, mostly the
parents of Japanese students studying at
UPIS organized a presentation of poems
and messages written by students for the victims and sufferers of the earthquake
in
H.E. Seiji Morimoto, Ambassador of Japan, received H.E. Jonghyun Choe, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and Mr. J.B. Kim, President of the Korean community in Oman in his office on 21st March. The guests handed over to the Ambassador the valuable donation raised among the Korean people. The Korean community in Oman consisting of about 400 is as four times larger as the Japanese one. The donation campaign was conducted widely within the community as a proof of friendship between the two countries, according to President Kim.

‘senbazuru’ at a specially organized ceremony. The senbazuru was created by
the students as a gesture of support for

The book of condolences was opened at the Embassy of Japan from 13th to 23rd March. During the period, a total of 228 persons visited the Embassy to sign the book including ministers and dignitaries.
