"Japan Day" at Dhofar University

    The Embassy of Japan organized "Japan Day" on 17th October together with Dhofar University in the southern city of Salalah. It was the first time for the University to hold such an event.

    In the opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Hassan Said Kashoob, Acting Vice Chancellor, praised Japan for its development while keeping traditional culture. He then expressed his wishes for the enhancement of the friendly relationship between the two nations and the cooperative relations between the Embassy and the University.

    At the Orientation on the Government of Japan Scholarship Program, a former scholarship student from Oman shared his own experience, in addition to the brief explanation of the program. Many students at the University was interested in studying in Japan and the participants keenly listened to the presentation.

    There were sessions of calligraphy, where Japanese calligrapher Ms. Chosho Yabe who was on a short visit to Oman, presented a live performance and a workshop. The performance saw a large audience with some people on aisles. People applauded when Chosho finished her work which wished for the friendship of Japan and Oman. In the following workshop, the venue was changed due to a large number of people who wished to join. Then some 80 participants including students from neighboring colleges, learned from technical elements such as differences between Japanese and Arabic calligraphies, to the philosophy of Japanese calligraphy. Each of them wrote "Arigato," meaning "Thank you" in Japanese.

  

  

    The event was concluded with a Japanese film show ("Happy Flight"). The audience enjoyed the rare opportunity of watching a Japanese movie.

    The Embassy received a commemorative plate from Dhofar Universty on the occasion of Japan Day.
