Visit of Japan Maritime Self Defence Force Training Squadron to Salalah
From 29th August through 2nd September, three Japan Maritime Self Defence Force Training Squadron vessels, namely Kashima, Shimayuki, and Matsuyuki visited Port Salalah in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Oman.
During their stay, various events were held including a reception being attended by Omani Government officials and military officers, a music concert at Dhofar University, and courtesy calls.

[30th August] Lecture by Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Oman
Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan gave a lecture entitled "Arab Spring in Oman and Japan-Oman Relations" and discussed the geopolitical importance of Oman, the development of Oman over the 42 years of H.M. Sultan Qaboos's reign, developments over Arab Spring in Oman, and the relationship between Japan and Oman.

[30th August] Reception
A reception was held attended by about 30 invitees including Deputy Governor of Dhofar and Omani military officers. The reception began with the remarks by the host, Rear-Admiral Hidetoshi Fuchinoue, Commander of Japan Training Squadron, and followed by Mr. Yamanaka, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Oman, representing the Embassy. After the remarks, Deputy Governor of Dhofar and some participants joined Kagamiwari, a barrel-breaking ceremony following a Japanese tradition on an auspicious occasion. With the live performance by the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force Music Band, everyone enjoyed friendly conversations.
[31st August] Junior Officer Program (Excursion)
On 31st, about 200 Junior Officers went on an excursion in Salalah. During the short trip, they were relieved from tensions from tough training, and deepened their understanding of Oman through direct contacts with the rich nature and friendly people of Oman.
[1st September] Courtesy Call on Deputy Governor of Dhofar
On 1st September, Commander of Japan Training Squadron paid a courtesy call on Deputy Governor of Dhofar. During the meeting, Deputy Governor welcomed the port call by the squadron amid intensifying relations between the two countries.
[1st September] Music Concert at Dhofar University
A music concert was held at the auditorium of Dhofar University attended by university officials and citizens. An hour-long concert that included a performance of "Warship March" was heartily applauded by the audience. After the concert, the university kindly offered refreshments and the band members had a time to mingle with the audience.
