On 4th December, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito hosted Japan’s National Day reception at his residence, which observed the 83rd birthday of His Majesty Emperor Akihito, attended by His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd Al Said, Assistant to the Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers as the guest of honour.
On 22nd November, Sheikh Mohammed Saud Bahwan, Chairman of Saud Bahwan Group and Chairman of Oman Japan Friendship Association (OJFA) was awarded the prestigious Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for 2016 by H.E. Fumio Kishida, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in recognition of his substantial contribution to promoting bilateral cultural relations and mutual understanding between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman. On this occasion, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito hosted a commendation ceremony at his residence on the 22nd, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture and Honorary Chairman of OJFA, H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health. Following the Commendation ceremony, the Embassy of Japan held a book donation ceremony to donate more than 120 books, including Japanese textbooks and cultural books to OJFA. The books were handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Sheikh Mohammed Bahwan, OJFA Chairman.  
On 10th November, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito and the Embassy staff participated in the Beach Cleaning activity organized by Al-Saleh Group in collaboration with Muscat Municipality and Omani school children in Azeiba beach. In his speech Ambassador SAITO said: keeping environment clean is an important element to keep us in a good health, and good health brings the society further development and it gives flourishing country view.
On 8th November, the Government of Japan conferred ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’ on H.E. Dr. Ali bin Masoud bin Ali Al-Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, in recognition of his substantial contribution in promoting bilateral economic relations and mutual understanding between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman. The Order was presented by H.E. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minster of Japan in person at the award ceremony held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The recipients including H.E. the Minister were given an audience by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
On 8th October, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito and H.E. Kentaro Sonoura, State Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the 3rd Policy dialogue consultation with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamed bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
