Embassy of Japan's activities
On 8th June 2017, H.E. Mitsugu Saito, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
On June 21, 2017, the Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman exchanged notes concerning the entry into force of the “Agreement between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman”for the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investment”(Japan-Oman Investment Agreement). Accordingly, this Agreement will enter into force on July 21, 2017.
The Agreement provides the rules in terms of promotion and protection of investment in a comprehensive and detailed manner. It is expected that the entry into force of this agreement will further strengthen the economic relationship between Japan and Oman, as well as promoting the investment between the two countries.
On 22nd May, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito paid a courtesy visit to H.H. Sayyid Asa'ad Bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
On 21st May, Ambassador Mitsugu Saito received Rear Admiral Tatsuya Fukuda, Commander, Combined Task Force 151 (Commander, Escort Flotilla Four, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force).
Organized by International Cooperation Office of Sultan Qaboos University, in association with the Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman, an event under the title “Japanese Government Scholarship and Student Life in Japan” was held on 17th April 2017 at Sultan Qaboos University in which H.H. Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the University for International Cooperation, delivered a welcoming speech. Mr. Hideaki Yamamoto, Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Japan, delivered opening remarks, welcomed more Omani students to study in Japan and wished them to play active roles in boosting up the bilateral relations between Japan and the Sultanate. Mr. Tsuyoshi Hirata from the Embassy of Japan explained the brief overview of the Japanese Government's scholarship program to post-graduate studies in Japan and its application procedures. Then, Dr. Adel Abdullah Al-Mahdouri, associate researcher, Sultan Qaboos University and former scholarship student presented his experience as a scholarship student. The event was attended by a large number of students and staff members of SQU.
