On 8th August 2018, H.E. Mitsugu Saito, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman introduced Dr. Yoshiki Sawa, Professor and Chairman, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine and Dr. Shigeyuki Wakitani, Director, Seta Hospital to H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties between Oman and Japan and ways to develop it in all fields. On August 12th and September 18th, His Excellency Mitsugu SAITO, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman, awarded the prestigious Japanese Ambassador’s Commendation to one Omani citizen; Dr. Suad Al-Mudhaffar, and two Japanese nationals; Dr. Fukuju Yamamoto, and Mr. Tomoo Shoji in recognition of their substantial contributions to promoting bilateral relations in various fields and enhancing mutual understanding between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Suad Al-Mudhaffar contributed to the promotion of the Omani education as a founder and former principal of the well-known Azan bin Qais International School. She also has contributed to Japan-Oman relations through various kinds of cultural activities such as the Student Forum. In addition, she played a significant role in the success of Oman-Japan Economic Collaboration Forum for SMEs held in February 2018 on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of establishing Japan-Oman Diplomatic relations. Dr. Fukuju YAMAMOTO, a professor of Arid Land Research Center in Tottori University in Japan, is a doctor of Agriculture and a prominent Japanese researcher especially on Bswellia Sacra, which is well-known as frankincense tree. Through his research, he focused on the physiological mechanism of frankincense production in relation to the signal transduction substances and found an efficient method for the frankincense production. His achievement will be announced in the international symposium on Frankincense, which will be held in Oman in October 2018. Mr. Tomoo Shoji, Freelance Consultant and Environment Specialist has been contributing to Japan-Oman relationship mainly through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) activities in Oman since two decades, especially through capacity building of Omani officials in the environmental protection administration, introducing Japanese methods and standards. One of his prominent works in Oman is the Mangrove Preservation Project in Qurum area in Muscat. ≪Page Top≫ |
