Embassy of Japan's activities (October to December, 2018)
On 8th and 11th October 14, 2018, the Embassy handed over the books related to Japanese culture, history and literature, which were donated by the Japan Foundation, to American International School Muscat (TAISM) and American British Academy (ABA) respectively.
On 13th October 14, 2018, the Embassy hosted a reception on the occasion of the first performance by Tokyo Ballet in Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM). Tokyo Ballet performed a ballet “La Bayadere” in ROHM from 11th to 13th October 2018, which was their first performance in the Middle East.
On October 25, 2018, H.E. Ambassador Toshinori KOBAYASHI presented copy of his credentials to H.E. Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. They exchanged views on Japan-Oman relations and other issues, and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment for further development of bilateral relations.
Japanese Hockey Team entered “Hero Asian Champions Trophy Muscat 2018”, which took place from October 18th to 28th and was participated by six Asian countries, namely Japan, Oman, South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Malaysia. Ambassador Kobayashi and his wife watched the match between Japan and Oman on October 25th and supported both teams. On October 28th, the Japanese team lost a close match for the third place to the Malaysian Team, but the seesaw game enthralled the audience including Ambassador Kobayashi and his wife.
On November 5, 2018, the Embassy of Japan held “Japan Day” at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in collaboration with SQU. At the event, items related to Japanese traditional culture such as “Kyoto Dolls” and “Yukata” were displayed. In addition, Japanese tea ceremony and Karate performance were demonstrated and applauded by the audience. In prior to the event, H.E. Ambassador Kobayashi made a courtesy call to H.E. Dr. Ali Saud Al-Bimani, Vice Chancellor of SQU, and exchanged views on various cooperation between Japan and Oman, and Ambassador Kobayashi donated books on Japan provided by the Japan Foundation.
On November 28, H.E. Ambassador Toshinori KOBAYASHI paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sheikh Khalid Al Mawali, Chairman of Shura Council of Oman at Shura Council. In addition to discussing the results of his official visit to Japan invited by Japanese House of Representatives on March last year, they exchanged views on the bilateral relations.
On November 28, H.E. Ambassador Toshinori KOBAYASHI paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, governor of Muscat at Muscat Governorate. They exchanged views on Japan-Oman relations and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment for continuous cooperation.
On November 29, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Ali bin Masoud Bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation for the most valuable support of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman to the Government of Japan in the election where Osaka was elected to host World EXPO2025, and both sides reviewed bilateral ties between Oman and Japan and ways to develop it in all fields.
On 10th December, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties between Oman and Japan and ways to develop it in all fields.
On December 23, H.E. Ms. Midori Matsushima, Member of House of Representatives and Former Minister of Justice, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sheikh Ali Al Mahrooqi, Secretary General of Shura Council of Oman at Shura Council. H.E. Ms. Naama Al Busaidiyah, female member of Shura Council and Ambassador Toshinori Kobayashi joined this meeting. They discussed views on parliamentary exchanges.
