Embassy of Japan's activities (January to March 2019)



 On 7th January, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy call on H.E. Darwish bin Ismail Al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties between Oman and Japan and ways to develop it in all fields.



 On 10th January, H.E. Mr. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy call on H.E. Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral ties between Oman and Japan and ways to develop it in all fields.



  On 17th January, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman visited Ghubrah Independent Water Plant (IWP) located in Muscat municipality area. Ghubrah IWP is a water desalination plant which draws sea water and produce domestic water. The visit was attended by officials from Sumitomo Corporation, a Japanese company and major shareholder of the project.



 On 22nd January, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman visited Sur Independent Power Plant (IPP) located in Sur, approximately 175km south-east of Muscat. Sur IPP is a power plant which generates electricity with gas fired combined cycle. The visit was attended by an official from Marubeni Corporation, a Japanese company and major shareholder of the project.



 On 12th February, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman visited Oman LNG located in Sur, approximately 175km south-east of Muscat. Oman LNG operates three liquefaction trains, which produce LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) with a capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per annum. The visit was attended by a staff from Itochu Corporation, a Japanese company and shareholder of the project.



 The Embassy of Japan opened the Japan booth in the 24th Muscat International Book Fair at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in cooperation with the Japan Foundation and Publishers’ Association for Cultural Exchange (PACE) from February 21st to March 2nd. As with last year, Kinokuniya Book Stores Dubai also joined our booth to sell their books. Many people visited our booth and enjoyed Japanese books, resulting in Kinokuniya’s selling more books than the previous year.



 On March 3rd, 2019, H.E. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman hosted a reception at his residence, attended by H.E. Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry in the Sultanate of Oman and other ex-participants of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) training programs. Ambassador Kobayashi delivered a welcoming speech and expressed his expectation to further promoting cooperation between Japan and the Sultanate.



 On 11th March 2019, H.E. Mr. Toshinori Kobayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman held a reception at his residence for the former Japanese Government (MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) scholarship students. The reception was attended by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al Sarmi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Higher Education and a number of guests including officials from Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Education and former scholarship students. Senior executives from Japanese companies based in Muscat, who are offering scholarships for Omani nationals, also attended the ceremony. The Ambassador started the reception with a speech thanking the former students for their efforts to further deepen the relationship between the two friendly countries.



 The Embassy of Japan opened a booth in 968 GameZ held in Muscat from March 21st to 23rd. Many people visited our booth to enjoy Japanese books, movies and activities such as origami and Japanese calligraphy.



 On March 25 and 26, the Fukagawa Geisha Sisters visited a Japanese restaurant in Muscat and showcased their performance by singing Japanese traditional songs, dancing nihonbuyo (Japanese-style dance), playing shamisen (three-string Japanese lute) and yokobue (flute). Many people including our embassy staff visited the restaurant and enjoyed the performance.
