Training Squadron to the Sultanate of Oman

1.      Summary

(1) A training squadron of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) composed of three vessels; “Kahima”, “Shimayuki” and “Yuugiri”, visited the Sultanate from 26th to 29th May 2009. (click here)

 (2)The aim of the JMSDF visit is to further promote friendly relationship between Japan and the visiting country. The squadron set off on their training cruise of 145 days on April 16th. The three vessels will cover approximately 45,000 km during their cruise which will last till September 8th 2009.(click here)

 (3)The members of the visiting JMSDF squadron were joined by their counterparts of the Royal Navy of Oman in various exchange activities and sporting events which were organized to promote friendly relations between the two and to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of defense affairs. A small group of visiting JMSDF officers visited Japanese Association School in Muscat to meet the students and Japanese residents in Muscat . To mark the occasion of their visit, the Embassy of Japan in association with Oman-Japan Friendship Association organized a music concert by the JMSDF Brass Band on May 28th for invited guests of local communities. The brass band along with a traditional Japanese drum band of JMSDF played various types of Japanese music including popular music and traditional folk songs for the audience.
