The Embassy of Japan, in association with the Oman Japan Friendship Association and in cooperation with some Japanese companies in Oman, organized the Geo-park tour on 7th January 2010.
There are many geologically important sites where scientific researchers pay attention in Oman. This time we made a tour of these sites where we can see the pillow lava, sheeted dike complex, boundary of lithosphere and mantle, and Lasail Mine in the Sohar district, with the guidance of Dr. Sumio MIYASHITA, Professor at Niigata University in Japan and the President of the Geological Society of Japan.
Participants listened to Dr. MIYASHITA's detailed explanation on these sites and were greatly impressed with these geological arts. (about the detail of tour, please check the Ambassador's Short Essay).
