The New Year Reception

 

The New Year Reception for the Japanese community in Oman was held on January 13th at the Residence of H.E. Seiji MORIMOTO, Ambassador of Japan.  

The total number of 60 Japanese residents gathered and celebrated the New Year. In the center of the garden of the Residence, Mochitsuki (rice cake pounding) took place. Many guests, mainly men and women who were born in the Year of Tiger joined and pounded the sticky rice rhythmically. Along with the rice cake, ‘Osechi’ Japanese dishes specially cooked for the New Year ‘Osechi’ were served and all guests enjoyed the home-made Japanese foods. After the dinner, Mr. Kenji NAKAMURA, principal, and Mr. Wataru TAKEDA, teacher at Japanese Complementary School in Oman performed ‘Wadaiko’ or Japanese traditional Drums.  

   Japanese residents in Oman fully appreciated the Japanese dishes and spent an evening in reminiscence of our home country, Japan.
