Ambassador Serizawa Attends Int'l Conference on Archaeology of Oman Peninsula at SQU (February 1)
On February 1, Ambassador Kiyoshi Serizawa attended the opening ceremony of the First International Conference on the Archaeology of the Oman Peninsula, held at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the university to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Omani Studies.
The three-day conference featured several speakers, including Japanese archaeologist Dr. Takehiro Miki.

Courtesy Call: JCG Piracy Investigation Team Visits ROPCG (February 3)
On February 3, CDR NIWA Hideaki, Commander of Japan Coast Guard Piracy Investigation Team, paid a courtesy call to BG Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jabri, Commander of Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG), to express gratitude for ROPCG’s support in anti-piracy operations.

The Emperor’s Birthday Reception 2026 (February 3)
On February 3, H.E. Ambassador Kiyoshi Serizawa hosted a reception to celebrate the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. It was attended by H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, as Guest of Honor, along with members of the Omani delegation and other distinguished guests.
In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted recent high-level exchanges between Japan and Oman, including H.H. Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said’s meeting with His Majesty the Emperor last year and H.H. Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said’s visit to Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai. He expressed his confidence that Japan-Oman relations, built on the close ties between the Imperial and Royal Families, will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.

Ambassador Serizawa Attends TAISM International Day (February 13)
On February 13, Ambassador Kiyoshi Serizawa attended International Day hosted by TAISM (The American International School of Muscat). At the Japan booth organized by Japanese parents of the school, the Embassy’s chef served Japanese cuisine and promoted the appeal of Japanese food.



Ambassador Serizawa Attends Online Workshop “Scholarships and Academic Collaboration with Japan” (February 15)
On February 15, Ambassador Kiyoshi Serizawa attended an online workshop titled “Scholarships and Academic Collaboration with Japan,” co-organized by the Embassy of Japan in Oman and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The event began with opening remarks by Dr. Talal Khalifa Al-Hosni, Dean of the College of Science.
Prof. Yasuhisa Kondo, Professor at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) and Chair of the Global Environmental Studies Program at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI), then gave a presentation on joint research projects between Japan and Oman.
Subsequently, Associate Professor Dr. Yutaroh Oki of the J-MENA Office, Kyushu University, provided an overview of the application process for postgraduate programs and introduced various opportunities to study in Japan.
