Japan-Oman Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

       On April 21, commencing at 10:30 a.m. (Omani time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad AlBusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. They celebrated their 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations.
       Japan and the Sultanate of Oman established their diplomatic relations on May 7, 1972.

The Conferment of the ‘Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun’ on H.E. Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, former Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman

The Government of Japan announced on April 29, 2022, the conferment of the “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun”on H.E. Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, former Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of friendly relations between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman.

Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals

The Order of the Rising Sun, one of the prestigious decorations in Japan, was introduced in 1875. The award of the order for non-Japanese nationals started in 1981.

On May 9, 2022, Ambassador Jota YAMAMOTO, granted an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, presented his credentials to His Majesty. Ambassador YAMAMOTO conveyed greetings of His Majesty the Emperor to His Majesty Sultan Haitham and underlined his commitment to enhancing the bilateral relations between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman.

The Government of Japan conferred on May 10, 2022, the “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun”on H.E. Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, former Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, at the conferment ceremony held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.The Order was presented by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE called a port of Salalah for their Overseas Training Cruise 2022.

 From April 24 to August 22, JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE are on a round-the-world voyage for the purpose of developing the necessary qualities in about 160 officer trainees. They made a hasty port call at the port of Salalah from May 26 to 27.
 In Salalah, Rear Admiral KOMUTA Shukaku, Commander, Training Squadron, met with Captain Mohsen bin Sulaiman Al Hinai, Acting Commander of the Salalah Naval Forces, to discuss future Japan-Oman defense cooperation and exchanges.
