Japan-Oman Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

From November 2 to 5, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited Israel, Palestine and Jordan and had meetings with her each counterparts as well as Commissioner General of UNRWA. On this occasion, Minister Kamikawa also held a telephone talk with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad AlBusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman.
 

1. Minister Kamikawa stated that she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with great concern. Minister Kamikawa also stated that Japan has unequivocally condemned the recent terror attacks by Hamas and others, and that Japan has consistently called for (1) immediate release of hostages and securing the safety of civilians, (2) all the parties to act in accordance with international law and (3) calming down the situation as soon as possible. Minister Kamikawa stated that given the very severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is an issue of highest priority at the moment, Japan is preparing to provide humanitarian aid around USD 65 million for Palestine for the time being, in addition to the emergency grant aid worth USD 10 million that has already been decided. In addition, Minister Kamikawa conveyed her concerns about the attacks by the Houthis in Yemen. Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa once again conveyed that Japan’s position to support a two-state solution remains unchanged.
2. In response, Minister Badr explained the position of Oman and stated that he shares the great concern about the humanitarian situation on the ground and highly appreciates Japan’s diplomatic efforts, including the provision of humanitarian aid.
3. The two ministers concurred on continuing to closely cooperate to ensure the safety of civilians in the Gaza Strip, to improve the humanitarian situation and toward realizing a humanitarian pause that would contribute to such ends, to calm down the situation as soon as possible, as well as to realize lasting peace and stability in the Middle East region.
